Chapter 6: In Which Dehlia Has Dreams
"He looks just like you," Jo squeezed Din's shoulder, squinting down at the paper.Β
Dehlia had thought for a little while now that he needed glasses. She made a mental note to mention it again soon.Β
"Does he?"Β
βHe has the freckles, same as Dehlia. And the same nose. Tall too, and if youβve told me anything about the Auvrynvals theyβre a petite lot, so heβd have to have gotten that from you."Β
βLet me see, Daddy?βΒ
She peeked over his shoulder, Daddy Din barely moving his arm to let her in. She didn't remember moving from her chair either, but there she was with Daddy Jo's arm wrapped around her and Daddy Din's just barely nudged out of the way for her. And there he was: her brother, the spitting image of her father, having a medal pinned to his uniformed chest. How Daddy Din had even needed to ask if the man in the photo looked like him astonished her. He looked tired. He had a broken nose and a split lip and a black eye. And he didnβt look proud or happy, just tired. But that was her brother.Β
