Sao Paulo
Problem: Sao Paulo has been suffering from drought since November, 2014. The drought has become so bad that the people of Sao Paulo are drilling through their basement floors and parking lots to try and find water. Other countries around the globe have been shipping water to Sao Paulo, but they cannot ship enough water in time for the whole population, which is 10,659,386 people as of the year 2014. The population growth and economic activity has increased pressure on natural resources and systems on San Paulo because they cannot ship enough supply of water for everyone.....leaving many people to suffer with dehydration. Drought is also known to start wars. For example, back in the Bronze Age of history the Mycenaeans were believed to go extinct because of war which was triggered from drought. The Mycenaean people had very little water and fought each other for the remaining of the water than reached out to close city states in greece and ended up getting killed.
How Humans Instigate Drought:
As we (humans) continue to release more carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, patterns of weather and water will change around the globe. Drought will become more and more common in many places.
Threats to the Environment: Drought has many threats to the environment. For example, much of the wildlife will die such as animals and plants because humans living in a drought situation, can only ship so much water for the population, they do not care about any other living organisms because they are suffering from no water themselves. Would you think about the animals? No you would want the water for your children and your self. Also, drought leads to forests fires, which can expand into local towns, cities, farms and burn them down. The fires ruin the land and all the plants die because of starvation for water which can also lead to a food shortage. In San Paulo, they are considered somewhat lucky because they have the money to ship water and food into their location, but they are even still suffering. Imagine suffering from drought if you lived in a poor country? Everyone would die.
