“don’t touch me. i don’t need your fucking help.”

there was some uneasiness in the pit of oliver’s stomach the moment their eyes met. something was wrong. he couldn’t tell what immediately, but the energy in the air gave it away. “is something bothering you?” he carefully asked. he hated to do so, not wanting to open a can of worms he couldn’t quickly close again. but, it was always better to quickly solve a problem before it blossomed into something that couldn’t be tamed. then, he saw a familiar stone in their hand and his body went ice cold. “where did you get that?” it should have been at the bottom of the river, but oliver had plucked out each catton stone.

"okay, i left you alone for five minutes and now you're acting weird." juliet guessed something had to have happened. and she wasn't one to be subtle when she was curious. "did my nurse say something or tybalt or..." hopefully it wasn't her mother. she was blunt when it came to her daughter's friends.

while it was always fun to play a game of cat and mouse, farleigh hadn’t planned on playing the whole summer. there was only so much sweetness one could extract from waiting for fruit to ripen before it started to turn bad. and, farleigh was beginning to feel the turn as he watched the other ignore him in favor of felix. they were felix’s friend, after all, but farleigh wanted them more than felix did – in that way. he easily cornered them in one of the empty rooms, paintings of the dead and nameless the only ones in their presence. “so, did you really think you could just dump me and still stay here for the rest of summer, or do you think it’s cute to flirt with felix so much?” he used the word ‘dump’ loosely. fondling each other while drunk was hardly grounds for a relationship. yet, farleigh still felt some claim over them.

felix scrunched his nose as his shaded eyes landed on darcy, looking away quite deliberately. it was obvious how closed off he was just by his body language and quiet nature. felix was hardly quiet when someone entered the same space as him – constantly needing to greet anyone and everyone to ensure they knew he was there. “farleigh’s by the swimming pond,” he stated dryly. oliver had told him he saw the two of them kissing in secret in one of the rooms. usually, he had to worry about venetia, but felix supposed he couldn’t put it past farleigh considering how the other acted at school. he’d wanted this to be a summer for the two of them, not one he spent watching darcy and his cousin having more fun than himself. he didn’t like being cast to the side – not being the center of attention in the eyes of his best friends. he was certainly jealous, but he would never allow that word to leave his lips.

felix fell back against the grass, pulling the other down with him. the bottle in his other hand was nearly empty and easily rolled out of his grasp. “fuck, mate. i’m starting to think you have a bit of a drinking problem,” he teased, clearly the one under most drunk between the two of them. the sun had already set and the sky was a calmed purple, the moon quietly supervising them from above. felix rolled over onto his side to face the other. their noses almost touched, but he didn’t mind their closeness. “i don’t even want this to end. i want summer to go one forever – just like this. i’d even hardly want anything more, i think. well, i can think of just a few more things i’d want,” he joked, a chuckle escaping him. “what do you think? is it perfect, or are we – am i – not good enough for you?”

farleigh slid into the seat next to elliot, a sly glint in his eye as his hand subtly and briefly squeezed the other's thigh. "i know i'm a little late, but it's only by a few minutes," he explained with a small flip of his hand. "and, i came prepared with an apology because i know your time is oh-so valuable," he practically sang as he placed a coffee cup on the table in front of elliot. "you're not mad, right? i mean, i'm sure the soreness has been reminding you all day not to be mad at me," he teased, unable to help his smirk.
