Jack sits on the rocky cliff edge, looking at the island from a distance. The boy had stopped seeing him a few years ago, so why was he here? Berk was this terribly hard to get to island, but Jack made this trip every time the small summer month was over and winter made itâs way back across the little speck in the ocean. It was his favorite place as it was the only place someone had ever seen him.Â
It began years ago, the boy was so small, and Jack couldnât help but interact with the child. It was simple at first, small snow piles appearing when the boy slipped, but soon turned into full snowmen appearing at the wave of a hand to get the child to laugh. Then as the child grew, with Jack coming and leaving between the seasons, and became an early teenager, it turned into more direct contact. Drawings in frost on the windows, ice walls to block the dragon fire, and snowballs to the back when he wasnât looking. And then he saw him. It happened without warning, the snowball collided with the boyâs face, a dusting of light blue snowflakes, and suddenly, the boy wasnât looking for the source of the snowball. No, he simply picked up one and threw it right back at him. And just like that--Jack had a friend. His first and only friend that is.
Then Jack left, just for the summer, other parts of the world needed snow, but how do you tell a thirteen-year-old when you have to leave without warning? So, he didnât. Jack knew he wouldnât be gone that long, and he figured itâd be quick, fast. Time was such a strange thing to the spirit that summer couldnât possibly be that long, could it? Well, it could, apparently. Because when Jack returned the following year, later than he had planned, the boy no longer saw him. But, he kept returning, year after year, hoping that one day-just maybe.Â
So, Jack leaps off the rock and heads into the middle of the town. Looking around, he smiles to himself. âSomeoneâs been busy, hasnât he?â he muses to himself, before spotting the person he was looking for. âHiccup!â He calls out, before smirking to himself. Perhaps it was time for winter to take over, just a few days early. Jack taps his staff to the ground, a direct line of frost heading for where the other was heading. âLetâs have some fun, kiddo.â He laughs brightly, already planning a path of ice and snow for the other to end up sledding down (Even if the other wasnât aware that it would happen).
