“It is similar here. My daughter did marry Robert Baratheon, after he destroyed the firm that I used to work for.” Tywin said. “When I was younger, I worked with Aerys, and he had a very successful mortgage company. But then the housing bubble collapsed and Robert saw opportunity to topple one of the big faceless corporations. I divested from Aerys’s business years before- he had intentions with my wife that she was not interested in.” he explained.
“Robert ended up buying all of Aerys’s company, rebuilding it from the ground up, with advice from those around him. My daughter has a very shrewd mind for business, his name may be on all of the letterhead, but that company would collapse without her.”
“In this version of reality, your father was a commercial land developer. He worked well with Robert, financing hundreds of properties, but when Robert passed away, Ned and Cersei could not come to any sort of agreement.” he said, careful about the next words that came from his mouth. He did not want to imply that he knew that Joffery had been the one who had bought the hit on Ned Stark, knowing his mother would be pleased, and his company would flourish. “Your father passed away, and your siblings were all moved as I told you.” he said. “Where are they, in your world?” he asked. “And what of my children? What are Jaime and Tyrion doing with their lives?”
“Your family was loyaly to Aerys when he ruled the Seven Kingdoms,” Robb agreed; their stories matched up in that way at least. “But you changed sides when Robert rebelled.” Firm, Robb had learned that word only an hour ago, but he nodded his understanding. In this strange world, there was no kingdoms, but there were businesses, companies that were ruled by families and inherited by family line. “And there were no dragons?” Robb asked. He had a feeling such a thing did not exist in this world, but it was worth checking. So all the same people existed, but this world never had White Walkers, never had direwolves. There was no royalty and no war, but there was power still, and those fighting to take it.
Robb had calmed down immensely since his panic in the bedroom, and Tywin had convinced him that this world was real, that they were not enemies, but that did not make it any easier to understand. Coming to the understanding that in this world Tywin was his ally was almost as confusing as the strange device the man had dubbed “a cellphone” but Robb had at least calmed down enough for them to discuss their world’s differences peacefully. “My sister was to marry Joffrey,” Robb said, pointing again at King’s Landing on his map. “Branded the daughter and sister of a traitor, that marriage did not take place, but your daughter held my sisters captive in the castle.” At least, that was what Robb had been led to believe, not knowing that Arya had escaped. “And my brothers remained in my home in King’s Landing. They are safe there.”
Robb looked up at Tywin, feeling his breath catch in his throat and the old headache come crashing against his skull again as he remembered kissing him at this very kitchen table in this strange magical cellphone world. He looked away again, blushing slightly, and cleared his throat. “Jaime led one of your armies. I captured him. He is my prisoner, but he’s alive and being held in my camp. I have not tortured him.” Robb glanced at Tywin for his reaction, still expecting the man to strike him, to kill him where he sat. “And my mother had taken the imp--Tywin,” he corrected himself, “To try him for his crimes. He was released when the gods deemed him innocent in a trial by combat. As far as I know, he returned to King’s Landing. I have not heard from his since.”
