Dreadlock Deep Clean recipe
Deep clean: 3/4 baking soda 2 tsp of lemon juice 2 tsp of fine sea salt 8-9 drops of tea tree oil and any essential oils (I used 3 drops of peppermint extract it's was great) (do all of this over the sink. It will get messy) Mix all ingredients into a large bowl with as hot as you can stand water. Get someone to scoop the mixture out of the bowl onto your dreads (a cup or a measuring cut works best). Place a bag over your dreads (the bag should have no logo because the ink could leach onto your dreads) then wrap a towel around the bag (helps if the mixture starts to dip onto your neck). Wait 30 minutes and then get someone to help pour vinegar over you dreads. The vinegar an baking soda foams up an deep cleans your dreadlocks. Put the bag over your dreads again (with the towel) and wait another 30 minutes. Once that is done take a shower. By the time that you're done showering the smell of the vinegar should be gone, if not step back into the shower and continue to rinse rinse rinse. If after the shower your dreads feel sticky that means that you didn't get all of the baking soda out so rinse your dreads some more. Never air dry your dreads because it's more likely to cause dread-rot (mildew starts to grow in your dreads and rots them from the inside out). Always take the time to blow dry your dreads until they are completely dry to the touch (also get some one who doesn't have dreads to feel them and see if they are dry to the touch). Drying may take up to 2 hours but it is worth it if you don't want to have to shave your head. Another thing about dread-rot is, once you have it, you have to shave your head because the hair starts to rot as well. You would have to start from scratch.
