Dreadlock Tag
I decided to do this again because my dreadlocks are a year old coming this Sunday!
1. How old are your dreads?
1 year! How time flies.Â
2. How many dreadlocks do you have?
46
3. How long are they?
they around the bottom of my neck.Â
4. Why did you decide to get them?
I've always wanted them and I was in a point in my life where I could give them time to mature because I was in school full-time and not working.Â
5. How did everyone respond to them? Negatively? Positively?
No one has been negative about them but I know many people liked my hair better when it was curly before the dreadlocks. My mom definitely does. But I love them anyway. :)
6. What do you LOVEÂ about your dreads?
They are easy and different and I feel like I look more mature with them.Â
7. What do you dislike about them?
They aren't growing fast enough! but that's a problem I have with my hair whether it's locked or not.Â
8. What are some of your pet peeves that come with having dreads?
Stuff gets in them! and I get split ends in them and it looks like little white bulbs and they are hard to cut out.Â
9. Have you ever dyed them? Do you want to? If so, what colour?
No and I don't have the desire to dye them. maybe in the future.Â
10. Do you do any daily maintenance to your dreads? What are the steps included?
I don't do daily maintenance and I try to avoid twisting them too much (although sometimes I can't help it!) but I do weekly maintenance by washing and retwisting them.Â
11. What dreadlock products do you stand by and why?
nothing really. Just suave naturals shampoo and conditioner (mixed with water).Â
12. Which products do you regret trying?
I don't know that I regret anything because I learned from it but stuff that didn't work for me was any conditioner that was too thick and aloe vera.Â
13. What method did you use to start your locks?
I used the two strand twist. I'm not sure if this method is ideal because it did cause my locs to be lumpy in places which I don't really care about but for someone who wants perfect locs, I would try another method.Â
14. How much did it cost to get them done?
$100
15. What compliments have you ever received about your dreads?
People have said I look pretty with them, that they fit me well, that they are unique and pretty
16. Have you Influenced anyone to start their own dread journey?
no
17. Are you happy with how your dreadlocks look?
I am. Of course I get dreadlock envy sometimes when I see others but I like what I'm working with!
18. What would you change about your locks if you could go back in time?
I might try a different method to start them but I think all methods have their goods and bads so I don't know that I really care that much.Â
19. How do you normally style/wear your dreads?
Now that I work in a professional environment, I keep them out of my face for the most part with bobby pins.Â
20. How do you envision you and your dreads 5 years from now? Will you even still have them?
In 5 years, I'm pretty sure I won't have my dreadlocks. I love them but I am too curious to see what I am going to look like bald to keep them in that long. Also, I just like to change it up. I am thinking that I will have them for about 2 more years but a part of me already wants to cut them off and try something new.Â

Dreadlock Tag
1. How old are your dreads?
5 months old. I started August 12th 2011
2. How many dreadlocks do you have?
46!Â
3. How long are they?
they are about to my neck. They were about an inch longer but they've shrunken
4. Why did you decide to get them?
I've always thought they were really cool and this was a good time in my life to start them.Â
5. How did everyone respond to them? Negatively? Positively?
For the most part, people were positive. They were skeptical at first because in the beginning they didn't look like dreads. I don't really get negative responses or people keep it to themselves so that is good.
6. What do you LOVEÂ about your dreads?
it takes 5 minutes to do my hair! I used to wear my natural, curly hair that was beautiful but took 40 minutes to do. I don't have the patience for that anymore.
7. What do you dislike about them?
They are really lumpy right now. I'm hoping they will smooth out as they continue to lock but they may not. Who knows. Also, they are shrinking instead of growing which is annoying.Â
8. What are some of your pet peeves that come with having dreads?
Getting lint or cat hair in them and it's hard to get out.Â
9. Have you ever dyed them? Do you want to? If so, what colour?
Nope
10. Do you do any daily maintenance to your dreads? What are the steps included?
I don't do daily maintenance. I find that if I manipulate them too much, the roots look thin. I was them weekly and twist them at that point.Â
11. What dreadlock products do you stand by and why?
I use nothing on my dreadlocks except shampoo and conditioner when I wash them.Â
12. Which products do you regret trying?
When I first got them I used to twist them with aloe vera gel and even though that is water soluble and easy, it still caused build up. I don't regret it but I definitely don't twist with any products except water now.Â
13. What method did you use to start your locks?
two strand twists
14. How much did it cost to get them done?
$100
15. What compliments have you ever received about your dreads?
Just that people like them and that they fit me well.Â
16. Have you Influenced anyone to start their own dread journey?
No
17. Are you happy with how your dreadlocks look?
Yes, even with their lumps and bumps, I really do love them.Â
18. What would you change about your locks if you could go back in time?
The only thing is their lumpiness and I don't know how I would change that. I sometimes think if I'd started with something besides two strand twists, they wouldn't be lumpy but I'm not sure if that is true.Â
19. How do you normally style/wear your dreads?
A few ways- down with one side pinned back, in a pony tail, with 50's style makeshift victory rolls, with flowers in them, in head wraps, etc.Â
20. How do you envision you and your dreads 5 years from now? Will you even still have them?
I told myself I would keep them for 3 years to see what they grow out to be like. After that if I still like them, I'll keep 'em. If not, I'll shave my head. I hope in 3 years they will be about 4 inches longer.Â
