The prompt for Day 2 of Scenes-That-Made-You-Feel-tober, or STMYFTober, is "Thrilled." The scene I chose is from chapter 11 of And Builds a Heaven in Hell's Despair, by @blackerinapendleton and @greed-the-dorkalicious. Spoilers for that fic below the cut.
Some context first: Vergil has spent the entirety of the fic up until now trapped in the Nelo Angelo armor, which is enchanted to basically torture him with demon energy whenever he remembers his life or thinks for himself. But time and distance from Mundus have made the spell weaker, allowing Vergil to slowly regain some memories and his sense of self. In a few intense moments, his resistance to the spell has led to some pieces breaking off entirely.
In this scene, a demon hoard attacked him and Dante at the office, and at first he panicked, but when Dante was overwhelmed and fell, "something snapped within him," and he overcame his fear of Mundus's wrath and fought back. The armor attempted to subjugate him but, like before, piece after piece shattered in the face of his sheer willpower, and by the time Dante had recovered enough to tag in, Vergil was completely freed.
