Drawfee and Caldwell's new game, Drawnsters.
I'll be honest, I don't really get the hook?
You all draw card art based on one of your friends' prompts, and then that friend chooses their favourite to be their Drawnster. This seems good and fun, very Drawfee at home.
Then you use the card art for your card as like your boss monster? And you might get to see your other not-picked art as smaller effects.
The battle mode just feels really disconnected from the drawing.
Like, everyone is assigned some random number, and some random modifiers they get to choose how to apply? Which I'm sure does allow for skill/strategizing, but it's a bit bland.
I just feel like you draw, and then play an unrelated, kind of flavourless card game that happens to have card art drawn by you. It has to be flavourless, because the art could be anything depending on your prompts.
And a card game where you draw the card art is just not that interesting sadly. If it's a party game where it's expected myself and my friends are drawing silly goofy things, I guess I want the silly goofy things to matter to the card game somehow. I don't know how or even if that would be possible, but if the art doesn't matter to the card game, then why do I care that I drew silly/bad card art?
Maybe if there was a voting round where everyone votes to distribute stats and abilities like. "Which Drawnster is most damaging" or "which Drawnster has the most fire damage" and you could maybe get weird there like "which Drawnster could eat the other Drawnsters" or have a structure to help players make their own tags to vote on, which then gives cards stats and abilities based on what the players think the silly card they drew could do?
But then that would be way harder to balance, way easier to break the balance of. And it would take way longer before getting to an actual card game.
So that's probably a bad idea.
But the game needs something for me to still care about the art when I'm battling, and to care about the battling when I'm drawing.
What I've seen just doesn't look that fun :/
