Our abstract for the III ReUSO International Conference has been accepted! We will be in Valencia in October presenting our paper about the Drawing Cities project.
ReUSO is organized by the Building Engineering School - Polytechnic University of Valencia, in association with the School of Architecture - Polytechnic University of Madrid, the Architectural Department -University of Florence and the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture - University of Pavia.
The conference will focus on issues related to documentation, refurbishing and reuse of the historical built heritage and is organized in 5 categories:
Topic 1 - Criteria and methods of intervention in times of crisis:The objective is the definition of a framework about requirements, models and intervention strategies appropriate in a period of crisis, considering the heritage preservation such as the recovery and perpetuation of its worth.
Topic 2 - Technologies and operational methodologies for preservation: Considerations about traditional and current technologies for structural strengthening and rehabilitation of existing buildings. Reflections about heritage interventions, to improve the comfort and analysis of energy rehabilitation‘s compatibility. Studies about eco efficient reuse of ancient and architectural heritage. Definition of the condition to respect historical, artistic, technological, anthropological and cultural values.
Topic 3 - Life in buildings and historical cities: Deepening on historic districts, their transformation process and the relationship with the contemporary urban context: new ideas for the intervention to promote the development, recovery and reuse of the architectural and urban heritage in historic districts.
Topic 4 - New considerations for the use and enhancement of monuments: The proposal is to provide assessments of the compatibility of interventions on heritage. The reuse of ancient architecture or urban areas must be functional and related to the real needs in the current context: are required considerations about the “musealization” of architectural heritage related to the fluctuation of a tourist flow, and the importance of interventions that ensure the flexibility function designed in a reuse intervention.
Topic 5 - The fruition of the heritage: cultural routes and landscape: _ Landscapes and historic districts form a complex systems composed of residential areas, streets, roads, squares and paths. It’s essential that these elements are documented, conserved and valued. The objective is to deepen the topics relating to the intervention on the historic landscape and the elements that compose it.
Topic 6 - The intervention on the historical heritage and educational experience: Effective education is the foundation of a consolidated methodological approach, which should result in interventions on heritage respectful to the historical, artistic, cultural, environmental, sociological values … etc. The sixth line of study dedicated to teaching, and intervention on the built heritage and its reuse aims to provide the theoretical, methodological and procedural foundations that contribute to the dissemination of accurate, relevant and consistent teaching activity.
