At his annoyed look, she merely rolled her eyes. “I was watchin’ your daughter plan an addition t’ her blanket fort.” Valentine leaned forward in her chair and pointed towards the curly haired ten year old. “Ya may need t’ invest in more blankets. Looks like she wants t’ make multiple levels.”

"Are you even listening to yourself?"

“OF COURSE I’M LISTENING TO MYSELF!” Valentine yelled, anger finally erupting from her chest like a volcano after an earthquake. “I know wha’ I’m sayin’! I know how fucked up it is! Dinnae ya think I’ve been told all this shite before, Charlie?! I know tha’ none o’ this is healthy, but there’s nothin’ I can fuckin’ do about it now, is there.” Fuck, she knew telling him would be a bad idea. Even as the words were coming out of her mouth, she could tell how bad this would get, but she could not stop herself. Something about this man made Valentine just want to tell him everything. “He’s my da, Charlie. I’ll always care about him him, in spite o’ everthin’ he did t’ me. I cannae turn my back on my family.”

After a long period of silence and a sad look, Valentine simply said, “Dinnae ask questions you dinnae want the answers t’.”

"I already regret this." 

Laughter peeled from her lips and she merely gripped his hand harder. “It’s too late t’ turn back now, old man.”
