The dragon was, Karkat thought, a bit of a spaz, but he found it charming. He gave her a moment to laugh herself out, storing the quarters in his utility pack. When she stopped laughing, he tried to regain control of the conversation.
“Seriously, are you ready? Where’s your cane?” He made a show of looking around, knowing he wouldn’t see it.
It was probably in her hoard, a tiny old van that she ripped the back seats out of, packed messily with all her contents- currently parked on top of his bridge. Terezi shrugged.
“I forgot to grab it. I’ll meet you on the sidewalk.” Before Karkat could protest, or suggest they simply walk up together, Terezi had rolled her shoulders and transformed. It was dazzling to watch, as her magic raced over her pale skin in a wash of blue light, scales shimmering into existence as her form shifted, pulling into itself.
Her limbs twisted and shortened, her face grew a snout, her hair disappeared. Her clothes took on the color of her magic as well, revealing themselves to be just as illusory as her human form. The light grew brighter, filling Karkat’s vision, forcing him to turn away for a moment. When he looked back, the transformation was complete.
Terezi must have known he was staring, admiring her “Oklahoma collared lizard” inspired coloration, because she visibly preened for a few moments, as what little spots of light filtered through the clouds danced upon her scales. She then spread those bright wings wide and launched herself in the air, leaving Karkat to walk up to meet her.
