Toa Payoh holds many fond memories for me. It is where I grew up, hence it was especially meaningful for me to be back there for Singapore Heritage Festival (SHF) 2018. Together with local grassroots advisor MP Saktiandi bin Supaat, we saw vintage vehicles, games of yesteryear like goli and tic-tac-toe, and enjoyed local hawker fare served by 2nd and 3rd generation hawkers. Into its 15th year, the festival delves into the hidden tales of Singapore’s colourful history, bringing our built heritage and intangible cultural heritage into our neighbourhoods. It was also wonderful to see many parents bringing their children to SHF 2018.
