Danganronpa Maximum Security - Student 13A
Sakurai Ayane - Ultimate Trampolinist
“You’ll put it into words, but it’s plain to see— we need a little less of them, a little more of me” - Tiffany Tatreau, What The World Needs
Ayane is the best.
She has to be. It’s not especially her choice. She won gold once and she can do it again. It doesn’t matter what she does or who gets hurt—she’s the golden girl. If she doesn’t keep that title, she’s nothing.
The truth is bitter, but it’s true. She can do anything, and she will do anything it takes for that. She will ruin days, ruin careers, even ruin lives. She will lie and cheat and sabotage so long as it gets her in first place.
Anything to be loved. Anything to be cared about.

Tamb Ruik….
I admit, I wasn’t a big fan of hers in the original even though I related very strongly to her competitiveness and perfectionism. However, now that I’ve had the time to actually take a step back and look at Tetro’s writing through a critical lens, I managed to figure out why—she was a one-trick pony.
It feels like Tamba as a character was simply written to be laughed at… despite not really being all that funny. The only joke about her was “look at her! She’s not smart!” Which I find to be really mean-spirited. Additionally, like many of the female characters, she was pushed aside far too often. Her development was left until the very end of chapter five to really get going, where characters like Kamimura and Chiba are given far more of a spotlight with far less time, dying earlier but having more convincing arcs. I feel like it is important to note that a lot of the fanbase’s reception to Tamba is fairly misogynistic—however, it is not misogynistic to say that she was poorly written.
