A rooster, which was pet of his neighbor, was the one that worked as a good alarm clock for him. At the crack of the dawn, the rooster used to make a ‘cock-a-doodle-doo’ sound. His mornings started with this sound. Half a glass of hot sugary tea, before brushing his teeth, used to be his eye-opener. Waiting in the queue to get a bath and then getting dressed for work was his daily ritual. He used to cut potatoes and his father used to roll out the dough. They were the proud owner of a shop-on-the-rolls. Selling samosa was only way to earn their living and not to forget their USP : sweet & sour chutney. One day he asked his father, after watching near by school children playing holi after their exams, ‘why is he not allowed to attend school ?’ He got complete silence and a solace stare in response, which his 8 year old brain is not functioned to understand. Next day, a man who must be in his 40s, tall, fat and whose neck can barely be seen came to his mobile shop. He was wearing faded green colored shirt and pant and a dark-brown belt. He was sporting stars over his shoulders and a shiny badge on his chest, written something over it. He ordered 30 samosas and took the package and left without paying. He asked his father why there was no payment. His father looked at him with teary eyes and answered, “That’s why you are not allowed to attend school, my son.”
