Debussy was a mastermind. Yes, Mozart probably knew more notes than him, and he did put them in his work in a way that made sense to someone not as musically inclined, like herself. But, even though it was very ornamented, though it went against the mold of what other musicians at the time did, there was a soft simplicity to Debussy’s work, she thought. Most of his later work, in particular, was just there to remind whoever listened to it of how fantastic the world could be. He didn’t need odd chords like Satie or bombastic arrangements like Berlioz or others from the era he left out of. He started a movement around how music felt. This particular recording, Violet felt, put to notes just what she thought he was trying to express.

‘Well, Cuphead and his pal Mugman,They like to roll the dice.By chance, they came upon Devil’s game,and, gosh, they paid the price!’

This was nice. The music, the look, the feel…they all reminded him of the records Scrooge used to have in his garage. Donald and Della were never interested, but it was nice.

And gosh! It looked so good! The map looked so cool! Everything was smooth, the designs looked cool. He couldn’t wait to play the first level!

Joséstarted out as Cuphead, going right on the screen, jumping, crouching…then he got hit. That was okay. It was his first try. He finally found the attack button, and he managed to get three or four enemies down before he died. Oh, dear.

Well, this was the first level. He was bound to make some mistakes. Okay, a lot of mistakes. He was not that good at these newer games. But he would pick up Cuphead, dust him off, and put him back to work!

No matter how distracted he was by the graphics. No matter how many times he died. And died. Finally, though, he made it to the first boss, a very sour orange flower that shot his roots up through the ground. He died almost immediately. He tried again. And again. And again.

This was a very hard game.

The parrot makes himself laugh. This isn’t a funny joke, but he has to give you something, right?

Right?

Because they can’t be? No. Donald is an adventurer, and Panchito is a wanderer. They can both make it through anything! They’ve both saved his life so many times. He has to try to save theirs…unless it really is too late.

“No, they are not,” he insists. His voice is crackling painfully. Pulling a handkerchief from his jacket,José dabs his eyes through his attempt at staying composed, “How? Th-they can’t-”
