I was just wondering what kind of brushes you tend to use, since your artstyle is very painterly and csp’s painterly brushes have always felt very difficult for me.

no worries! the brushes i've used have changed so it's not a bother at all :)

i really only use 6 brushes, 3 of which are the default g-pen, the oil paint flat brush, and the soft airbrush in clip studio. the other 3 are free brushes from the asset shop which i've linked below.

water pencil (my fav!!)

rake painter (also my fav!!)

monobrush

csp's brush engine can be kinda wonky sometimes tho you're right

- to get the painterly look i actually rely a lot on the blend tool. i will lay down a flat color and block in very angular and rough shadows with the gpen and waterpencil, then overlay a broad stroke with an oil brush (the rake, oil, and monobrush are all oil brushes, i just use whatever feels right at the time...) and smudge as needed with the blend tool.

maybe this mini speedpaint can better illustrate what i mean. it was made in procreate (sorry i'm out rn ;-;), but i've been brawling with csp for ages so my process is generally the same.
