FMCSA Expands Crackdown on Chameleon Carriers
The FMCSA is continuing nationwide enforcement efforts against “chameleon carriers” trucking companies that shut down after violations and reopen under new identities to continue operating.
Federal officials say these companies can create serious safety risks while avoiding penalties and enforcement actions. New registration modernization systems and fraud detection initiatives are expected to strengthen oversight throughout the transportation industry.
For brokers, shippers, and customers, proper carrier verification is becoming increasingly important as regulators focus more heavily on compliance and fraud prevention.
