Day 19 challenge 🔴: Dorothy Dandridge is one of my inspirations behind doing what I do regarding the #Pinup and #OldHollywood styles. Unfortunately, one of the sucky parts about #AmericanHistory and #ClassicHollywood was racial discrimination and lack of positive representation in the media for people of color (especially for Asians and Blacks). For example, #BlackWomen were limited to playing roles as domestics, slaves, and unflattering stereotypical roles on the #SilverScreen. #HaysCodes also made it more difficult to have diversified casts on screen. The extremely few roles that did allow Black women to shine on the silver screen, were usually given to either Lena Horne or #DorothyDandridge. These roles were typically in movies with all Black cast. Both of these women fought to not be pigeonholed into stereotypical roles, and helped pave the way for examples of Black beauty and glamour in the media. I can go on and on about this subject, but I won’t at this time. . . . For this challenge ➡️ Find an image of #DorothyDandridge to use as inspiration for your hairstyle and styling (optional) for Day 19. Include the Dorothy Dandridge image in your pic collage, swipeable photos, or video. Don’t forget to show your number and post during your time zone.
