Some pictures of my visit to Loch Doon and the Doon Castle ruins yesterday. I thought Caerlaverock Castle being triangular was something, but this castle is actually polygonal and successfully defended this area against English siege in 1335. Wow~

Doon Castle was originally built on an island in the centre of the loch, but was deconstructed and moved/rebuilt to where it stands now as the water level in the loch had to be raised for a hydro-electric power scheme. The castle was rebuilt to the exact specification as it was before, but wall cores and later buildings were left on the partially submerged island.

Hydro-electricity greatly benefits Scotland and is one of our top green power industries, and I’m grateful that such an effort was made to protect this castle and it’s history while the country makes necessary changes to better support itself.
