how 2 flirt: step 1. cool shades
tumblrs working again so here’s the second part of that fic
not too edited this time since im tired aha
OK so here’s the first chapter of a thing im writing, i guess mostly to get some reactions to how good/not good i am at writing?? ANYWAY its innocent for the first chapter so no warnings needed I suppose (ruscan btw)
Thin sheets of ice covered the outside of a large building, snow piled high outside. The wind was harsh, but it couldn't disturb the group of people in the building, who went about their usual antics.
"That's enough for today," Came a German's voice in a half-grumbled tone, trying to keep professional past his irritation. Chatter broke out barely seconds after, the group getting up from their chairs and started gathering their things to leave.
Matthew Williams leisurely scooped together his papers, thankful that he'd gotten some useful points from the hectic mash of arguing and chatting that people called a 'meeting'. Matthew of course bit his tongue about his displeasure, glancing up when someone familiar neared.
"Yo! Mattie," Chirped America as he leaned on the back of Matthew's chair once close enough. "Wanna go out tonight? Y'know, a lil' man-to-man time,"
"Sorry, Al, but I'd rather not," Matthew politely declined, speaking up again when he saw Alfred frown. "Its going to storm soon, and honestly I'd rather be in my hotel room than stuck trying to drive through snow,"
"More snow?" Alfred groaned, nearing Matthew to lean his weight on him instead of the chair. "Your country snows way too much,"
Matthew chuckled, nudging Alfred off. "I can't help it, plus, the snow isn't that bad. Maybe a little annoying," He replied, Alfred backing off soon enough. After another groan and whine, he soon tried to get over it.
"Fine, but when all this snow is done with we're going to dinner," He grinned, Matthew rolling his eyes and picking up his coat, pulling it on.
"Alright, alright, whatever makes you happy," Matthew replied, once dressed for the weather he picked up his papers and note books, huffing as he realized he'd accumulated one too many. He stuffed them into his suitcase, making sure it closed properly before turning with it in hand. He blinked in surprise as he saw Alfred's look turn irritated, staring behind him, Matthew turning to see what could be bothering him.
"Commie!" Alfred barked just a little too late, Matthew jerking when he got a face-full of a jacket. He stumbled, his chair tripping him.
Russia looked back, having been backing up and hadn't noticed the two behind him. Alfred was scowling, on the verge of a tantrum.
"Watch where you're going!" He yelled, Russia turning, smile light on his face.
"Maybe you should keep from under my feet," Chimed his voice, the tone borderline venomous as Matthew shook his head, holding it. He groaned, alerting the other two of hi
"Are you ok?" Alfred asked, moving to help but Russia beat him to it, taking him by the smaller by the hand and tugging him up just a bit too roughly. Matthew was surprised by the act, but uttered a quick 'thanks,'.
"Do not worry, little Canada. Just try to watch where you are, da?" Replied Russia, that same venom present but diluted. The Canadian was aware that Russia didn't hate him as much as he did America (that was putting it lightly; he still lumped them together for being close) so he didn't worry too much and gave a curt nod. Alfred seemed livid, but surprisingly silent. He supposed he could tell Matthew just wanted to go home at this point.
"Come on, Matt," Alfred muttered bitterly, coming over and taking Matthew's suitcase off the floor for him. "I've got another short meeting here, but I can walk you out," Continued the American, now ignoring Russia who'd long since turned with his own belongings to leave. Matthew nodded, accepting the offer and was soon heading down the hall with Alfred.
They walked in silence, most of the other nations having already left. "Say, Alfred," Matthew somewhat murmured, loud enough to catch Alfred's attention. "What was with that reaction? Not to offend, but you barely ever just drop stuff like that,"
Alfred gave a cheeky smile and rubbed the back of his head. "Ah, well, its been a long week, y'know? Thought I'd give you a break from the fighting and stuff, plus that Rusky doesn't deserve my time,"
Matthew smirked and pushed Alfred playfully. "Aww, is Alfie getting soft?" Teased the smaller, Alfred blushing up and shaking his head quickly with a 'nu-uh!"
"A Hero isn't soft! I'm just doing my job," He grinned, giving Matthew a light shove in return. Matthew stuck out his tongue while opening the exit door, wind gushing in quickly, making him shudder.
"You gonna be alright on your own?" Alfred asked, Matthew nodding.
"I know you're worried, but I can take care of myself, Alfred," He replied, stepping out, Alfred nodding and waving goodbye. Matthew returned the wave before starting across the parking lot, digging out his keys. He unlocked his car once he got there, tossing his suitcase into the passenger seat and slipping into his own, closing his door.
With a tremble from the cold, he quickly got buckled in, putting in his key and firing up the heaters. He yearned for his hotel bed as he turned on his car and pulled out of the lot. The snow was already starting to pile high on top of the first layer, Matthew praying he wouldn't have to go out for anything that night.
-
Matthew sighed contently as he reclined back in his car seat after parking in front of the hotel, his body aching. He pulled the key out of the ignition and took a moment to stare out at the snow, shuddering at the thought of having to trudge through that to the hotel. He'd walked through MUCH worse, but honestly he was feeling too exhausted.
Heaving a sigh, he sat himself up more to get ready to go, grabbing his suitcase. He paused, glancing down at it quickly.
His heart skipped a beat.
"Are you kidding me!" Matthew gasped aloud as he saw that the suitcase was certainly not his. His suitcase had his hotel key, his cellphone, his very important notes and his identification in it. He wouldn't be able to get a new key without an ID. Groaning and cursing at Alfred internally, he brought the heavy suitcase onto his lap and opened it up to see who's he'd taken.
He pulled out a folder, pausing for a moment as he felt bad for invading their property, so he just flipped through the fronts to see if he could find something that might determine who it was. He stared for a long moment at a note covered in odd scribbles, squinting at the paper as he thought his eyes were messing around. He knew quite a few languages, or, at least he could recognize them.
Matthew frowned as he soon recognized a letter or two. "Russia," He thought, making him wince. "What messy cursive," He added out loud in a murmur, returning the pages to their proper place.
"How am I even suppose to find him?" He thought more as he sifted through the papers for any sign of where he could've gone, soon stopping as he spotted a small pouch on the inside of the suitcase. He dove his hand in, retrieving a key.
He flipped around the tag to find a place, recognizing the name of a motor in. He quirked a brow, wondering why Russia had chosen a motel over a hotel room but didn't think it over as he set slipped the key into his pocket and closed the suitcase, pushing it into the passenger seat before turning on his car once more. He pulled out of the lot, spotting a few snow plows already out. He was relieved that the roads were probably going to be clearer by tomorrow, heading steadily down the road for now.
Matthew sat at the edge of his seat the whole time, trying to drive as carefully as possible. The road was pretty much empty, to his pleasure, not wanting to be caught in traffic and the snow. It took him some time to actually find the place as well, so by the time he'd arrived there, it was nearing 8:30pm. He decided to park on the street, not wanting to risk getting stuck in the parking lot since the snow was already up to his shins there.
He parked, stepping out of his car reluctantly. He pulled his coat tighter around himself and grabbed the suitcase from the passenger seat, closing his door after him. He made his way quickly to the reception area, wincing as snow managed to slip into his boots none the less.
The smell of cigarettes and dust hit him as soon as he walked in, Matthew feeling a gag rise in his throat which he suppressed the best he could. The woman at the front desk was slow to speak up.
"Hey," She greeted, looking Matthew up and down. The young man realized he'd left his meeting wear on, looking a bit too business-like to be standing in a motel.
Clearing his throat, he strode closer. "Hey, um, is Ivan Braginsky here?" He questioned, hoping that he remembered the man's human name correctly. The woman seemed to dim once she realized he wasn't going to rent a room, turning to a small note book and leafing through a page or two.
"What business do you have with him?" She questioned, peeking at him from the rim of her glasses.
"Younger brother, I've got his things," Matthew replied, raising the suitcase. He knew the lady would give him a hard time if they weren't related.
She looked at him suspiciously before waving him off. "Third room out front," She replied before returning to her work, Matthew flashing his smile as he turned and headed outside.
He shuddered, the wind having picked up, blowing snow in his face. He shook his head before hurrying down the small path way between the support beams and building. He stopped in front of the third door, holding his fist up to knock. He wavered for a moment, biting his tongue.
"Come on," He groaned quietly at himself, taking a step back. He couldn't believe that he was shying up. He knew well that Russia wasn't as terrifying as people made him out to be, but he had seen him get violent with the other nations if he crossed him. Russia was a very strong nation, in fact. Matthew was not, and he'd rather not get on the man's bad side in that case.
'What am I thinking,' Matthew barked at himself internally, 'he's not going to have my head for returning his things! Get yourself together,' he grumbled audibly at himself before coming forwards once more, giving the door three quick knocks.
The snow howled as he waited, getting more anxious with each passing moment. Matthew slowly grew aware of how much time was passing, not wanting to sound rude but he decided to knock again, looking at the door expectantly.
Heavy footsteps soon reassured him that at least someone was coming, the sound of at least three locks opening before the door cracked open.
[OK so I hope that wasn’t too terrible. I didn’t spend a lot of time editing (and im gonna get a friend to beta-read the entire thing so far) but im kind of content with what ive got. but like, future warning, im gonna put mpreg in it (/shot) (I’ll be waiting for my followers count to go down aha) BUT I hope you at least enjoyed the chapter and some feedback would be great]

Above, Below (Through the Cracks) Author: doodle_writes Pairing: Sherlock/John Rating: NC-17 Summary: John Watson returns to London from the war, broken and lost until fate leads him to a man who calls himself the consulting detective and the mercenaries who are hunting him. As the consulting detective attempts to get to safety to get to safety and solve the string of violent deaths plaguing Below before he is next.. Why: This is a deeply engaging AU, especially the way the author never fully explains (at least not in one chunk) how Below operates. The romance portion towards the end seems a bit too rushed to me, but dat plot twist makes up for it.
A Silver Sixpence Author: _doodle Pairing: Sherlock/John Rating: NC-17 Summary: John, we need to get married. Why: For the Sherlock big bang, so fairly long. Sherlock proposes to John and is kind of irritated when John doesn’t agree right away. John’s narrative is very casual, but well-suited to his character.
