Bending, Not Breaking
This morning the Holy Spirit brought to mind earthquakes and infrastructure. I recalled what I had heard from a teacher a few years ago about the construction of buildings in areas that are highly-susceptible to earthquakes. As I researched this construction and the methods used, I saw that companies were getting together and creating buildings that were meant to be bent and not broken. In one specific construction project, some of the materials used were steel rods for the structure, light roofs, and materials that were sturdy yet flexible and lightweight. The combination of strength, durability, flexibility, and lack of weight produced a structure that could withstand the weight of its inhabitants but not be destroyed by the shaking of its foundation. So that got me to thinking, what if I approached my faith in a similar manner? What if I were conscientious of my faith and of the inevitable earthquakes of life? What if I kept those quakes in mind and allowed my faith to be constructed in such a way that when life produces things that shake my foundation and knock down everything else surrounding me, though I may bend, I’m not broken.
Don’t Break || Isaiah and Beryl
Isaiah had been at work all day, it had felt like the day was longer than most and he couldn’t wait to get home to Beryl. When the hour stuck he let out a sigh of relief. He was finally done for the day and he was able to head home. It wasn’t a long drive and while some times he took the long way he didn’t this time around. Instead he headed straight home, pulling into the parking lot of the apartment building he parked the car and headed inside.
Unlocking the door and letting himself inside something felt different though he was unable to figure out exactly what it was. He didn’t know if maybe he was imagining something or if the feeling really was off. He shut the door and locked it behind him, “Beryl?” He called through the house, “I’m home baby.”
Come on. Brave face.
