“Mmmmmhmmmmm?” Hal grinned sideways at his younger friend, giving him a nudge in the ribs with his elbow. “I saw you chatting to her. Look at you, you’re all grown up these days,” he laughed again. He was enjoying teasing his younger friend - the guy was about the closest he came to having a cousin, the whole MacMillan family were basically his family as well.  “You’ll soon be quite the heartbreaker, I mean, look at that smile,” he teased again with a laugh.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” Hal sobbed, no more able to stop his tears, which were streaming down his face than he was to reach the moon. The alcohol in his system was clouding everything, his logic, his control, his common sense was all fuzzy and almost gone. The pain, on the other hand, only felt more real. It stung like he was having his heart ripped out. The song had come on and suddenly, it had hit him. It had hit him, the reality of it all. That Oli, his Oli was still in France and he wasn’t coming back. They could write all they liked but nothing would bring him back to where his Oli would hold him in his arms as they danced to the music. “I c-can’t,” He added, trying to rub his cheeks dry, but totally failing.
