Since it’s Thursday, I’m throwing it back to these paintings from 2012. The goal was to create a self-portrait series that also represented my childhood and an object related to it. I had gotten the idea to compare my head with my childhood baby doll. I then painted a childhood photo of myself holding the doll, the doll on it’s own, and the doll parts. At this time I had recently stumbled upon @shawndbarber and it helped me approach this series with the idea of capturing something dark. This doll was one of my favorites, but as a girl, a woman, living in our twisted society, the idea of being compared to a doll is much deeper and darker than the facade of childhood. Hope you enjoy these, it was a time when I was still developing my own point of view and this work informed the direction of future narratives. . . . #babydoll #dollhead #dollparts #dolllegs #dollbody #dollarms #dolleyes #selfportrait #comparison #johannafalzone #childhood #tbt #throwbackthursday #womanartist #womeninart #feministartist #feminist #womensrights #womanhood #girlhood #oilpainting #figurepainting #illustration #popart #popsurrealism #contemporaryart #contemporarypainting #darkart #darkness https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn963NUhcyL/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=22hj4pcacv21
