Very rare Benedict & Burnham Mfg Co skeletonised long wind rotary pocketwatch. Circa 1878. Duplex escapement, paper dial. First sold for $3.50. The predecessor of the Waterbury Watch Co, the B&B watches were distinguishable from the Waterbury series A from the spring cover. Known as the poor man's tourbillon, the movement rotated once every hour and it took 120 to 140 turns of the Crown to fully wind the 9 feet long mainspring. Time set by manually pushing the friction fit hands! The watch had 58 parts and a two wheel train instead of the usual 4. Designed by Daniel A Buck, this was the first inexpensive pocket watch that subsequently came to be known as dollar watches. #horology #duplex#timepiece #watchporn #waterbury #dollarwatch #pocketwatch #watch #antique #history #benedictnburnham #madeinusa #skeletonised #rotary #longwind #collection #patent #instawatch #watchgeek #watchessentials #watchgame
