when you jump to conclusions based in nothing substantial this is what happens
cancel. culture. is. toxic.
so many people will try to justify it with “it’s called holding people accountable!” but there’s a huge difference between the two. holding someone accountable is calling out there actions and prompting them to address them, learn and become a better person. cancel culture is all about running people not only off the internet but the face of the god damn planet, because any time they hear their name they’re so quick to stomp on it. and dont get me wrong, in some cases like r*pe, murder, complete racism, etc it’s absolutely valid. but that’s not what we’re talking about today. with some people it becomes a trend to trash peoples names and entire careers because someone decided that a person was cancelled, often times based on hearsay.
take doja cat for example. this one really pisses me off.
people accused her of entering chat rooms with white supremacists and self hate as a mixed person. THE WHITE SUPREMACIST BULLSHIT CAME OUT OF THIN AIR. there is absolutely NOTHING that points towards that??? like literally anywhere??? yet people are STILL trying to push that narrative after her and the people in that chat came out about it. check this out if you want more details on it. dont get me wrong, there were things that she did that she did need to address and be held accountable for, like the song she made also mentioned in the article. i think it might be a slur so im not going to put it in here, but it wasn’t her place to try to flip a narrative on something she didn’t experience first hand. and she did drop a hard r in the chat, which was gross and stupid. and she even addressed it as her just being fucking stupid. but to twist that into white supremacy? really? and heres the thing about self hate. there is a quote out there saying that she wished she was white because of her mixed race, because she is half white. as a mixed person, we get rejected by either of the races we belong to because we’re not seen as “enough” of one race to “count as a whole person”. and its bullshit because that’s not ANYONE’S call to make, no matter what you think about it. it’s not your place to decide what makes someone valid in their own culture, because we already feel out of place. and thats the thing. we feel so out of place because of the gatekeeping that it would be so much easier to be just one race. and if you’re not mixed, you dont understand that and never will. now that shes being seen and understood as a black woman, of course she’s more comfortable in her own skin. if people would see my as my own race then i wouldn’t have the self hate that i do. but you dont get to “cancel” someone because of their own personal dysphoria.
the fucking dumbest part about all of this is that people will run with something that a person is accused of and spread the misinformation like wildfire without fact checking because they’re in it for the hype. and it’s bullshit. they take these lies and try to ruin peoples careers and run them off the internet because of it. there are other people i want to talk about in this regard, but this post is already too long.
cancel culture is stupid. fact check, come to your own conclusions, and remember that these people are human too and not just walking entertainment machines.
Rapper Doja Cat addresses controversial song
On Sunday night, vocalist and rapper Doja Cat issued a statement addressing a resurfaced 2015 song with an offensive title. After receiving backlash for associating with alt-right internet users, she also defended herself, saying that she never took part in "any racist conversation" in person.
Hashtags like #DojaCatIsOverParty and #OnlyKlans started trending on Twitter late last week, with many social media users calling for their song "Dindu Nuffin" Doja (real name Amalaratna Zandile Dlamini). The title is a racist slur often used against black people who have faced police brutality. The artist was also criticised by people for appearing in past racist video chats.
Doja, 24, apologized for taking part in the chats in the first part of her statement but denied saying anything racist by herself.
Doja, who is half black, said she regretted the release of the old track, saying it was "written in response to people who used that term often to hurt me."
"I’m a black woman. Half of my family is black from South Africa and I’m very proud of where I come from," She kept going, "As for the old song that’s resurfaced, it was in no way tied to anything outside of my own personal experience. It was written in response to people who often used that term to hurt me. I made an attempt to flip its meaning, but recognize that it was a bad decision to use the term in my music."
She concluded her statement by saying she took the situation "very seriously" and promised to do better in the future.
