I say this because for a long time I didn't know if I was "good with kids" or not because I know how to talk to them if I have to, and I know how to treat them on a "children deserve their own autonomy wherever they can have it" way, and i am also am an avid fighter for children's rights and will do literally everything possible in my power to protect them at all costs. But also. I clam up around them

I don't know how to play with kids. I cannot and will not do sing-song baby voice with them. The extent of me interacting directly (one-on-one) with them has usually been helping them create their library card or find a book (I was a librarian) or sitting with a baby for a minute to make sure they don't get hurt or get into anything while their mom goes to take a shower or smth. I usually won't say anything directly to the kid unless I have to

In all respects I am very good to be around little kids. Actually, despite my having literally no idea what to do or say to a small child, I'm usually the one at family gatherings who's asked to look after the little kids, because I'm so good at making sure they're out of trouble and herding them away from danger. You wouldnt think so because im a punk with piercings and dyed hair usually dressed in spikes and chains. Belgian Malinois coded. I'm very good at saying "no, don't do that," and then explaining why in detail so I'm not just telling them "because I said so". Sometimes I'll give them a game to play and tell them the rules of the game.

But feeding a baby??? Playing princesses with a kid? Playing cars? Absolutely not. I'd be able to read to a group of kids very well and do silly voices for the characters and such. I can perform onstage and put on a CHARACTER that is very bubbly and just loves interacting with kids. But outside of that I just freeze up lmao
