can u explain the dogma 95 thing? im so confused becuz now ppl r bringing up that old H comment and im lost
yeah everyone's talking out of their asses on twt, i had to do a post there too.
im not going to get into any detail, i'm just gonna give u the NeedToKnow bc even for diehard cinephiles it doesnt matter much.
dogme95 was a movement that also went by the name the "vow of chastity" in which you had to follow a set of rules to qualify as dogme95. this was to combat the big budget hollywood blockbuster surge and encourage more filmmaking grounded in realism and using the actors as vessels to drive the story.
the rules included:
so as we can very clearly see, connor's work is quite literally a direct opposition to dogme95. and thus, hudson simply made a funny. when he called connor his dogme95 boy, it was satire essentially.
it should be said that dogme95 died out very quickly and barely 10 films actually classify as dogme95. even the films that Are considered a dogme95 film break their own rules somewhere, its simply impossible. dogme95 was overkill and that was kinda the point. it was a wave and it was always meant to be a wave. just an act of rebellion against the direction in which filmmaking was going at the time. it has obviously since then course corrected.
