a long time ago i had a dream about a dog not unlike a borzoi, except its teeth were sharper, snapping and exposed. and its fur was sheep-like. wooly. and then there was the tail, lined with, what in the dream-world was known as angel teeth. these too were sharp and one swish of the tail could prove fatal in a fight. the dog was no dog, it was a spirit. a guardian. it protected the marshy forest in which it lived. a forest filled with other strange beasts, not all friends. it came to me, as the twins rose from the swamp water. they were girls with long black hair and porcelain masks for faces. i do not know if the twins were good or bad. the dogdream, what i call the creature, swept me away. i think of the creature often, and try to capture its likeness by collecting images that remind me of it.
