Dogbane Leaf Beatle is the bane of existence to this sweet, sappy Milkweed family plant, which is a bane to dogs and livestock. The plant is called Dogbane. According to insectidentification.org, this beetle finds mates on the plant (pictured), lays eggs in its own feces, and sticks it to the bottom of the leaf. They hatchlings chew their way out and drop to the base of the plants, dig in, and eat the roots until the plant dies. This plant, native to the Americas, has been used for centuries like hemp for making rope. #dogbane #dogbanebeetle #dogbaneleafbeetle #milkweedfamily #Apocynumcannabinum #chrysochusauratus #shinybeetle (at Newtown Square, Pennsylvania)
