How bad was he?
She wanted to know. The question only repeated in her mind a couple dozen times. Okay, that was an understatement, but still, what it boiled down to was- she needed to know.
Part of her mind nagged- he left you, why do you still care? But the thoughts never went anywhere.
Her cell-phone had rung extremely early in the morning -- much too early for a weekend. She thought she would be sleeping in, but when she heard his voice - she didn't exactly check the caller I.D. beforehand- all of that morning grog was thrown out of the window.
He sounded terrible and sick. Could super heroes even get sick? The thought never crossed her mind, it wasn't relevant. Until then, that is. Maybe she'd google it later. Gwen pulled the first things she could grab from her closet , a blue button up shirt and a pair of capris - a lot more casual than what she normally wore- and put them on as she ran to the bathroom. Emergency or not, she would never opt out on brushing her teeth.
After she brushed through her hair once, she ran out the door and took the elevators to the ground floor and hailed a taxi.
When she arrived to the street just outside of his apartment, she handed the driver a fifty without taking a glance at the meter - if she did, she would have noticed the flashing red numbers of thirty flat. Talk about over-tipping.
Gwen ran inside. Finally finding his door, she frantically knocked on the door and jammed the door-bell button.
"Peter?" she called after a futile attempt at catching her breath, "It's me, Gwen. Could you open the door, please?"
