the last thing she expected was a call from Aubrey's school. she was in the middle of her patient rounds upstairs in the pediatric intensive care unit; so she didn't get the message until she was back at the nurses station. apparently she fell off the playground swing and got a large laceration on her forehead, somehow. the voicemail didn't leave that many details. she dropped everything and ran down to the EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT in a panic. she looks around to find where she is only to see her her in ROOM 4 with the familiar ginger doctor. ❛ aubrey, sweetheart !! ❜ she ran in the room and hugged her, only focusing on her at that moment, and nothing else. the six year old clearly had been scared and crying. but the moment her mother came in she was all smiles. elyse looked at the large laceration, and grimaced, before finally looking up at will from her kneeling position. ❛ so sorry I didn't come here sooner , i was upstairs in peds and I don't usually take my cell phone with me on my rounds. ❜

" so, why seattle , @dochalstead ? surely it's not 'cuz of the pizza —— not that ... not that deep dish is any good but — why here? " a question she postulates, not sure if more for making small talk with him or perhaps a rhetorical question for herself. the embroidered title of 'chief of staff' on her white coat still feels foreign, so conversations in the staff room on the floor is the only thing that feels familiar. / starter call.
