IBENJI makes his OTHERCIDE RECORDS debut with the BLAST OFF EP as he brings a set of diverse halftime selections to the label. Hailing from Moscow, IBENJI’s history spans nearly 10 years of two step influence, marked first by dubstep releases on labels such as Rottun Recordings and Section 8 and followed by more recent halftime works on labels such as Uplink Audio & LA90 Music. Throughout this diverse history of releases IBENJI’s sound has been marked by a unique hip hop influence, a trend continued on the BLAST OFF EP across its four powerful tracks. The titular BLAST OFF opens the EP in collaboration with SHIIRU as the pair set the sounds of a sinister hip hop vocal provided by T3ARZ to a halftime beat that lumbers with absolute bravado. MODEL 315 then experiments upon its electrified bassline, warping it between an array of drum fills and devastating kickdrums interspersed with vocal interjections. SHIIRU returns to collaborate with IBENJI once more on SHINOBI, which rises from inauspicious origins to produce the razor sharp slices of a well honed bass that cuts through the track’s shadowy atmosphere with exacting precision. Closing the EP is the energetic FLOW, which leaps its way through a landscape of chopped vocals, rumbling basses and explosive percussion for a final summation of the EP’s focal qualities. Even while celebrating twenty years among the top tier of drum ’n’ bass labels, Technique Recordings has hit another huge milestone. This release is TECH 200. That’s two-hundred singles and EPs which have helped make the name of a roll-call of contemporary DnB stars. Tantrum Desire, Document One, L Plus, No Concept, and many more have all been propelled into the limelight courtesy of Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s imprint. So, it’s only right that the bossmen themselves deliver this historic release, ‘Last Forever’. There’s an intro as silky-smooth and soulful as you like, with elegant keys and vocals blending into laid-back bliss, but the name Drumsound & Bassline Smith on the track tells us fireworks aren’t far away. As the track breaks down to it’s component parts before the energy ramps up towards the drop, it’s clear that creative selectors will be able to find all manner of ways to deploy this bombshell. Logistics - Waveforms EP When he signed to Hospital Records in 2004 Logistics made his mark with classic EPs like ‘Space Jam’, ‘Release The Pressure’ and ‘Wide Lens’. Now the Hospital heavyweight and connoisseur of soulful drum & bass, presents his four-track ‘Waveforms’ EP. The first in a brand new series that takes it back to where it all began. Opening the EP is the title-track ‘Waveforms’, a warm dose of the classic Logistics sound. Its big rolling basslines and uplifting vocals make this reminiscent of his anthemic tracks ‘Together’ and ‘Everlasting Days’. Dipping into darker territory is ‘Ancestors’. Hypnotic, piercing sonics rattle around the body with steppy kicks to boot. On a similar wavelength comes ‘Rhythm Track’ - a 2019 tint on the original jungle roots.
