new year new me now on AO3
hello again writeblr. hello whumpblr—long time listener, first time caller. hello TTRPGblr, if such a thing exists. i'd like to (re)introduce myself:
my name is [REDACTED], but you can call me CM, or persnickety-peahen/persnickety/pea/any other variation of my handle :) my main blog is @persnickety-peahen, so follows and such will come from there, and i'm also persnickety_peahen over on AO3!
i've been doing creative writing pretty much as long as i can remember, but since university, a lot of that energy has shifted into TTRPGs. and inevitably, when a campaign goes on long enough, i get so fixated on my PCs that i end up writing little narrative snippets from their backstories or scenes that happened off-table. for a long time, these snippets have just lain dormant in my TTRPG folder, but no more!
my new muse has filled me with heretofore unprecedented levels of inspiration. i am writing so much about him and i just know his pathetic ass would be a hit with other like-minded individuals if they only knew he existed—so i'm posting that shit on AO3 bay-bee!
it's self-indulgent. it's missing a bunch of context (although if the snippets get enough traction and folks are interested, i will fill in that context with worldbuilding posts and adventure summaries). it's told non-chronologically. it's full of footnotes because i can't help myself. it's a tragicomedy about two losers in an aggressively undefined queerplatonic situationship, set in an urban fantasy 1930s capitalist hellscape, and also one of them is dead. it's got dead doves. it's got mutual pining. it's got whump. it's got a cool magic weapon with a stupid name. it's got the kind of soul-sucking self-destructive grief that drives a man to make an ill-advised warlock pact in a strange dream and then wake up thinking oh gods what have i done. it's got multiple scenes of homoerotic wound care.
it's beta read by my beloved husband and DM @somethingclevermahogony and it's available to read right now on AO3 at Campaign Snippets: Losers Wanted.
if things go well and the fixation proves stronger than the executive dysfunction, who knows? maybe someday i'll even get around to posting snippets from some of my other campaigns too!
