LOCATION : DIAGON ALLEY, LONDON DATE : 1 SEPTEMBER 1979
DEATH AND DESTRUCTION HAVE A FUNNY WAY OF TIPPING HANDS : few people are as unreadable as they think they are, even less after a tragedy strips them of whatever dearly - held camouflage it is they’ve built.
Which is to say, Diagon Alley is filled, alternately, with downturned gazes and barely - concealed triumph.
Which is to say, BUSINESS IS VERY, VERY GOOD.
This morning’s Prophet takes up the majority of the bench beside them, loudly - tragic HOGWARTS HEADLINES dancing their peculiar, paranoid tarantella ‘round the front page, but Davey’s busy watching the Alley’s many FEET, bustling by as if they’re simply part of the brick - work rather than another terrified soul simply –––––––
Davey fishes a book of MATCHES from last night’s pub out of the breast pocket of a brilliant - yellow jacket with a rather indelicate snort. As if they could finish that thought without cracking a smile.
❝ TAKE IT, GO ON, ❞ they slant a brow toward the paper when one of those many pairs of feet come to PAUSE, attention focused on guarding the match’s flame long enough to light a cigarette, ❝ certainly not doing me much good, is it, DON’T I LOOK OLD ENOUGH TO BE FREE OF THAT PLACE ? ❞
