Ummmmmmmmmmm
Normally im not a person who "bitches" about things. At least not online anyway. This is a bit of a long post, so if you are interested in hearing about why I am not going to be at Otakuthon this year, please read on:
However, I feel the need to address the Otakuthon situation, since its after ConBravo and ALOT of people are asking about the Saturday Night dance at Otakuthon, which has allways been my biggest show of the year. People are asking why I am not listed on the website anymore, what is going on, etc. etc. etc.
I honestly don't know what is going on because no one has actually told me anything. I have not recieved any kind of correspondence beyond what I am about to post here. I think it is safe to assume that I will NOT be DJ'ing at Otakuthon this year, but thats not what bothers me. What bothers me is that I have been doing it for a number of years now and the organizers feel they don't even have to give me a "hey thanks for all your work over the years, thanks for making the dance awesome, but we are moving in a different direction this year, sorry." I feel, as I am sure many of you as well do too, that this is crazy unprofessional.
Anyway,
So it all starts around the beginning of June, after Anime North. This is when I used to get an email from the staff of Otakuthon asking if i was available, and to set up my attendance etc. I checked the otakuthon.com website, and all my information, my Bio, the event description i wrote, it was all up there, so I just assumed that I hadn't been contacted yet. I didn't get any email, so I sent this:
I got this response from the general "Guests" email:
It was a very speedy response which I was quite surprised about, and I guess it gave me false hope for future emails to also be responded to so promptly.
At the end of the month, I sent another email to follow up:
Now you see this is where things get wierd. Clearly someone has been reading my emails, because after this email, the event description changed to omit my name from it. Its the same description I wrote way back when, just with an ever so slight modification:
And, here is the email in which I wrote the description to my old contact. Please note the date.
Yeah.....
So not only does someone not have the decency to just send me an email explaining why after 3 years I am no longer wanted (Im actually fine with it, ill explain further down), they also do not have the decency to respond to my email, OR to come up with another event description on their own.

So just to clarify: I am not mad/upset about not being invited again. It has been an awesome gig and an amazing crowd, but being someone who helps runs a convention myself (ConBravo), I totally understand the need to freshen up the acts and try new things sometimes. What I am BOVVERED about is that I don't get treated with some shred of respect. I guess its all par for the course in this industry, but *I* personally, nor any of the other convention runners I work with would pull something like this. If you have been a valued guest for 3 years, and we don't need/want you anymore, we will tell you why, and also THANK you for your years of service. This is akin to showing up to work one morning and seeing someone else at your desk. Through the locked glass door. And no one telling you why.
Anyway. I thought I would share my rant. I am sure the dance this year will be great, I assume they have found another DJ and they are probably really great, so if you are attending Otakuthon this year, Enjoy it and show him / her your support as you have shown me. It has been a supreme pleasure to DJ for you wonderful amazing people. I'll miss you this year!
