What do most of us think about planning a DJ set?  On one hand, every DJ knows what it is like to come to an event unprepared.  It is stressful when you realize that the music you have setup for the night simply won’t work, and your only plan is to freestyle it.  Still, for each gig that is out there a DJ will do a little bit of planning and strategize about how the night might go.  The goal is that a good set will be a mix of planned songs with an injection of creativity during the right moments. This is sort of akin to what a rapper does when they freestyle.  The words might come to them during a battle – but they have prepared in advanced strings of words that go together quite well.  Honestly though, there is no replacement for actually knowing your way around your music.  If you can think of the perfect song to mix then you are better off than the guy who is searching his list of music by tempo or key.  This also means that time needs to be spent just listening to music rather than DJing it.  Each song is unique and can be understood. http://traktortips.com/better-know-your-music-than-plan-dj-set/
