Those of you that have known me for a long time will know that I have a very different career story to many DJs. I have always had one foot in mainstream dance parties, and the other foot in fetish and underground dance parties. It has given me a unique perspective on the nightclub industry, how I see it, and how I respect and love both sides for what they are. The year was 2000. I had been DJing for a couple of years, discovering the sounds that would form my musical identity, the sound and music style that would be associated with my name, but I was in a dilemma. At the time, I was resident of two very different club nights in London. I shared my Saturday nights between FIST, the notorious anything-goes party, and UP (Underground Party) which was a dance party with an underground house and deep house music policy. DJs during that time played one style, sometimes even the same set over and over, with tracks played even in the same order, time after time. How do I play the same music for both clubs? Does that not mean that people will go to one club, and not the other, because they can hear the same music from me in either club? Will my DJ name only be associated with one type of sound? Will people only end up going to one club, because it was pointless paying twice to go to a different club to hear me play the same music? The answer came from Erick Morillo. I was already buying tracks from his label Subliminal Records. One day, the guy at the record store handed me a release from the new dark sister label SONDOS. I was hooked! He showed me that it was possible not only to be accepted as a multi-genre DJ, but to have his name known for a high standard of music, no matter what the genre was. Thank you for showing me the way forward. I will always remember how you have influenced my DJ career, and how you continue to do so, to this day. #dj #djjackchang #djslife #djforlife #grateful #subliminalrecords #sondosrecords #erickmorillo #housemusic #housemusiclovers #housemusicallnightlong #housemusicalllifelong #housemusicdj #housemusicitsaspiritualthing (at Frankfurt, Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEoTuevB1Kq/?igshid=5jxpt6ldzors
