I've only ever played Bloodborne to completion so I must know. What's the Dark Souls 3 hype
First and foremost, it’s a love letter to the original flawed masterpiece:
And it’s also a flawed masterpiece while Bloodborne is essentially perfect! I adore both but I have to admit, DS3 and DS1 with their imperfect charms fit with the themes of decay that Miyazaki always approaches.
They make you FEEL all through the game what you feel when you fight Gehrman with that music. The emotion in Dark Souls resonates in a different way than Bloodborne and it’s hard to explain. Bloodborne and Dark Souls are both tragic, but in Dark Souls, it’s like you’re meant to feel the tragedy on a world-wide, cosmic scale. The entire world is doomed and you can tell.

And her
And the main menu theme (the soundtrack in general)
And this dialogue
And this boss fight
And the opening cutscene
And HERRR

GODDD
Everything. Everything about this game.
If you like gothic horror and Lovecraftian horror and a basically perfect game experience….Bloodborne is the one.
If you like a variety of all of these gothic and high fantasy and Lovecraftian tropes, Elden Ring wins. It’s a love letter to all of the games, including Sekiro and it combines it all so well.
If you want PEAK FromSoftware, Dark Souls, Miyazaki philosophical and cosmical tragedy about the world’s end with a largely European gothic setting that feels like the place where high fantasy and gothic horror both sprung to life in the other games and developed, Dark Souls 3 is honestly the one. It’s the best of the Souls trilogy, in my opinion. It encapsulates them all, flaws and brilliances alike.
