GAH OKAY so Iām doing some light healthy re-reading of DJATS and Iāve realized why Iām not the biggest fan of show!Camila/Billy, and itās honestly because of the fundamental way in which show!Camilaās character has been changed.
book!Camila had faith in Billy, always. She accepted him when he came back from rehab, and was committed to making a family with him, always and forever. I read this line from the book and it totally struck me as a core of book!Camilaās character, her love for Billy and her desire for a family with him, and her total commitment to making that happen for herself and him. Billy cheats, falls into a drug wormhole, misses his daughters birth, and when he comes back, Camila lets it go.
CAMILA: I think you have to have faith in people before they earn it. Otherwise itās not faith, right?
show!Camila doesnāt do that. She didnāt even say those words, so I get the sense that show!Camila loves her daughter, on some level loves Billy, wants a familyā¦ but doesnāt 100% want that family with Billy. (Eddie, on the other handā¦ *cough cough*).
So, essentially I think itās easier for me to dive into DaisyBilly and CamilaEddie as opposed to CamilaBilly, because honestly show!Camila doesnāt seem 100% convinced, deep deep down, that she wants Billy all the way.
