The vibrant animation in #Dizzillusions represents sensation, specifically auditory #sensoryoverload that I frequently struggle with. Abrasive sounds (and even strong smells and certain touches) “jam my frequencies” and make it difficult for me to concentrate/communicate. You can imagine that Times Square is usually a difficult place for me to be! April is #AutismAwarenessMonth. I am autistic. I use my talents to self-soothe when I am overwhelmed, making hypnotic motion graphics and musical loops, even humming (the groan you hear in this video) and most recently singing. The #TimesSquare #MidnightMoment allowed me to broadcast my self-regulatory practice in one of the world’s busiest pedestrian areas, asserting my presence in this violently gentrifying city. For just a moment, as the street turns pink and blue, I feel calm. Maybe you will too. Dizzillusions plays every night of April at 11:57 - midnight.
