Tripod Process and Materials
The part of the project that i was in charge of was constructing the tripod that will hold the selfie stick . Pictures are added to certain steps that I found worked better with a visual!
-3 broom sticks (or dowels )
- A wooden piece to act as a base for the tripod’s legs
-PVC piping (or any other cylindrical tube. I had this laying around the house)
-masking or painters tape will do
Take your wooden piece that will act as a base, make sure it it sturdy enough so that the selfie stick will not have it coolaps. It should be thick enough to drill a hole though.
On the wrong side of the base, trace out a triangle and locate the center of the triangle. This will help with indicating where the piping should be attached
Take the PVC piping (or any cylindrical tube) and cut it on an angle and cut the length of the piping to 1.5 to 2 inches in length. This will allow the legs of the tripod to be on an angle rather that being straight down.
Hot glue the small PVC piping to the board with hot glue, that is used as a stabilizer. When the glue is dry, drill in a screw or 2 into the base and the piping. This will give the PVC piping a stronger attachment
PS: The hot glue was not strong enough so I do not recommending that this should be the basis of your attachments.
After locating the centre of the base, drill a hole that is the same size of the diameter of the selfie stick, this is where the selfie stick will slide in to the tripod.
Next, take your three tennis balls and cut slits into them and place them on the handle end of the broomstick. Leave the end where the broom attaches because that is needed later.
Next, take the 3 broom sticks and put masking tape or painters tape around the end where the broom attaches to the stick. This will give the stick more grip when inserting it into the PVC piping.
If the tube of the PVC piping is slightly bigger, add more layers around the ends to help it fill in the gaps.
That’s all! The final thing to do is attach the broom sticks tot he PVC piping tubes by twisting them in. This allows the tripod to be easily detachable and easy to store.
