“Serena, I have something to tell you.” He knows she’s not going to be happy with his decision (and hell, neither were his parents), but after weeks of deliberating, he’s sure it’s the right one. He’s been sure ever since he woke up in the hospital, on the verge of death, still determined to finish what he’d started. “Okay, I know you’re going to get angry with me, but I’ve got to do this.” A pause, as he surveys her reaction. “I’m going to go back to racing.”

               ❝ Me? Nah, nah, I haven’t been crying. ❞ For all his musical talent, he’s a horrible fucking liar; he sniffles and wipes away the tears at his reddened eyes, trying to force a smile for Serena. ❝ It’s just--- I have really bad allergies. ❞ These “allergies” have never once been mentioned or surfaced before, but he figures a lie is easier than telling her the truth.

“      i’d   much   rather   have   you   do   this   than   anakin.      ”        said   through   a   wince   as   the   cloth   brushes   a   particularly   sensitive   cut  ,    sucking   a   faint   hiss   through   his   teeth.        “      he’s   not   half   as   gentle   as   you      --      and   he’s   not   nearly   as   nice   to   look   at  ,    either  ,    if   i’m   being   honest.      ”
