I’ll be honest—I didn’t know what to expect the first time I went on day dive trips to Richelieu Rock. We left Khao Lak really early, before the sun was fully up. The boat ride was a mix of calm water and a few choppy bits. My friend joked about getting seasick, and I laughed nervously, hoping I wouldn’t be the one hugging the railing.
By the time we got close, the watercolour had changed from turquoise to this deep, inky blue. It was kind of intimidating at first, but also exciting. Jumping in was a shock—the water was cooler than I expected—but once I got my bearings, everything around me felt alive. Small fish were weaving through the coral, and I noticed a tiny nudibranch tucked in a crack. I tried to point it out to my buddy, but he was too busy chasing a small school of fusiliers.
