Details of the Big Green Doors at the Strathcona Streetcar Barn & Museum. • The museum is located in the Strathcona Streetcar Barn on 103 Street and 84 Avenue (at the north end of the Farmer's Market building) in @oldstrathcona . The museum is open 10am - 2pm on Saturdays from May long weekend until Canadian Thanksgiving in October (excluding the annual Fringe Festival). This six-storey mural, by @okudart Okuda San Miguel, was painted as part of @rustmagic International Street Mural Festival 2018. “I think art has to be in the streets too because we have too many distractions in the street like branding, like logos… people need art.” -Okuda San Miguel Born in Santander, Spain- he is a painter and sculptor known for his distinctive style of colorful geometric patterns that portray animals, skulls, religious iconography and human figures. He is perhaps most famous for painting the Kaos Temple in Llanera, Asturias, Spain. McIntyre Fountain @oldstrathcona • erected 1913 by the residents of the City of Strathcona honouring their first member of Parliament Dr. Wilbert McIntyre. The original fountain was installed on the median in the middle of 104 Street and 83 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta in 1913 and took a few hits in the busy traffic in the area. It was in 1952 that a car crashed into the fountain knocking it completely off it's base and destroying it. The replica was paid fo by donations to the Old Strathcona Foundation and was installed in a much safe spot in the park in 1991. There is one major different between the original and replica fountains: The original fountain had the bowls for dogs, a human drinking fountain, and water troughs for horses, while the replica only had the dog and human drinking spouts. • Dr. Wilbert McIntyre Park, 8331 104 St NW, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Walterdale Theatre in @oldstrathcona was originally known as Strathcona Fire Hall Number 1, this structure is the last remaining example of a pre First World War fire hall in Edmonton. Designed by Arthur G. Wilson and David E. Herrald, the hall was built between 1909 and 1910, by contractor James M. Eaton at a cost of $15,000. The hall was described at the time of construction as “unusually commodious” (roomy and comfortable). Constructed of brick and stone quoins, cornices and a concrete floor the building also had a parapet which was demolished at a later date. Dominating the front of the building are the three main doors decorated by radiating stone voussoirs. The bell tower rises to a height of 77 ft. (23.4 m.), which enabled the fire hoses to be properly racked. Following the amalgamation with Edmonton in 1912, Fire Hall Number 1 became Fire Hall Number 6 and remained in service until 1954. The building was then leased to Strathcona Furniture for 20 years until it became home to the Walterdale Theatre in 1974. Designated a Provincial Historic Resource in 1976, the building is also on Edmonton’s “A” List of Registered Historic Resources.
