So... I've been in Germany for just about a month now. It's been crazily amazing, and I've done so much stuff and met so many fantastic people. I haven't blogged very much; I've been pretty busy going on Adventures! But I'm going to blog a few times in the next week.. more below!
My host sister, Alexa, was here when I arrived, and she left that Friday for Argentina. She showed me many things around Schwerte, and we had an awesome time before her departure.
I've made a few friends. Everyone's been very kind at school, but definitely not as friendly as people are in the US. That made my first day kind of rough since I was basically expecting that. I've talked to other Americans here, and they're experienced the same. But, from all reports, it just takes a little time. My second day was also much better than my first.
The food... is so amazing here! Especially the bread. There are bakeries on what seems like every street, and they have dozens (a baker's dozens, haha :). There's a lot of meat, and while I've tried all of it, I can't I enjoyed it all. There's also soda water (with bubbles) that is as common as plain 'ole water in the US. I can drink a little of it; I've been drinking a lot of apple juice here instead.
My host family is so fantastic. They've taken me to quite a few cathedrals and castles, and they've all been stunning. It's such an odd feeling when you're standing at the feet of a cathedral that took hundreds of years to build a half century ago.
The first Rotex weekend where all the inbounds got to meet each other was this past weekend, and it was incredibly awesome. We went to a few different places in the Ruhr area, and just being with people from all over the world, is amazing.
Quite a lot of other stuff has happened, but that's the general information. I want to work on posting shorter blogs fairy often rather than the super long ones I post infrequently. I have so many pictures of cathedrals, and I really want to share them. So that should happen in the next week, since DEUTSCHLANDTOUR IS ONE WEEK AWAY! I'm not that excited, not really... it's only touring Germany for 11 days with about fifty other exchange students that I started the paperwork for it in May. And it's only going to be the most awesome thing ever.
Plus, I'm 17 now. I was only 16 the last time I saw all but two of my fellow exchangers. More on that later. Next couple days?
