What to do with Disruption?
Companies like AirBNB, Uber & Netflix just keep on growing and are doing really well. This is threatening other classic companies and forces them to change the way they've been doing things for so long. These companies can learn from the "disruptors" and need to embrace them.
So what do they need to do?
Create a foundation for change It is very important that the whole management team is aware of the need for change. They also need to agree that change is necessary to survive. They have to feel this need and see it with their own eyes.
Bring diversity in the management team This has to reduce the gap with reality. Often the management team is up in the sky on a golden throne. Bringing different people, with different cultural backgrounds into this team will make it more real and closer to the customers.
Change the way of leading Leaders need to be close to their team of employees and listen to them. When you understand them and listen to their ideas, you'll get better results.
Innovation is key Without change and innovation your doomed. Make sure you know what's new in your sector and invest in innovation. Also try to partner up with innovation accelerators and buy the rights start-ups if you can.
Reform the organisation Change the way you are organised. Work in little teams who report directly to the management and manage their own budgets. These teams can develop complementary products & services, disruptive ones and 'special projects' with room for innovation.
Simon Sinek has a simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership all starting with a golden circle and the question "Why?" His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers ... (Filmed at TEDxPugetSound.)
7 things successful people never say
"That's not my job" If you only stick to what your supposed to do, you won't get the attention. Want to stand out or create something? Do more than people expect and go that extra mile!
"That can't be done" If you don't believe it, you won't achieve it! This is the worst state of mind to handle a problem or create something new. Remember, those who believe they can change the world, are the ones who do. Don't be a quitter.
"This will only take a minute" Never underestimate what it takes to grow, to create something or to stand out. You'll have to work harder and longer than you've planned, but it will be worth your while.
"It's not my fault" Nobody likes a blame shifter. Even the biggest entrepreneurs make mistakes and admitting you were wrong or misjudged something shows character and gives you the ability to grow and learn from your mistakes.
"I don't need help" Teamwork is essential. Accept the help from others and bring different ideas together. Being able to work with others makes you a good leader.
"It's not fair" Oh well, life isn't fair. Don't complain and feel defeated but look for solutions. Never a failure, always a lesson!
"We've always done it this way" True disruption starts with doing things differently and certainly not like they've always been done. Think out of the box and don't stay into known or old patterns.
We cannot solve a problem by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.
Albert Einstein

The way I think about all technology now is that if you’re creating something, your goal is to fulfill some human desire more easily, more conveniently.
