There's really something incredible story wise in just how much trust Red willingly extends to Chloe in this scene—something about the way she knows how hard it is to move past your pain, to choose not to turn it onto others... but more importantly, its what her unwavering belief in Chloe really stands for. Its her way of apologizing, of saying "you were right, and I'm here now, neither of us are alone in this."

Chloe grapples with betrayal and yearning, with the desperation of wanting to cling to the one thing she knows will always be there when it matters and the wound of feeling like Red left her behind to go at it alone when they promised to do it together... but all she really wants is for someone to see her pain, and even though Red was the one to inflict it, she's also the only one who can truly understand it in this moment.

Sure, Max lost the kind version of his dad because of Red, and that mirrors the way that Chloe lost a gentler version of her mother because of what they did in the past, but what's really speaking to her here is that fact that she knows better. She doesn't want to be a villain, she just wants the pain to stop, and there's a choice in front of her to either except the hand that is reaching out to her, or shun it in favor of a dwindling sense of retribution.

And that's when you can see it on Red's face. She notices the pain, and it reminds her of her own version of this moment in the first movie—a moment where she felt alone, in a land she doesn't understand, with her only familiarity causing her pain. So, she does what she wishes someone had done for her...

She meets her where she's at.

From last movie into this one, these two have been a team of traumatized bumbling idiots figuring things out together, and each of them have been constantly trying to do it their own way while convincing the other to go against their instincts to follow. But what Red says here is different from before—it's not the defensively independent, "I'm hurting too, I'm just trying to get us through this".

Instead, it's "I know there's a lot to figure out and everything is a mess, but I'm here. I will be here with you, and I will meet you in the middle so we can sort through our pain together."

A lot of people might see it at face value, as just a reminder of what should be a partnership but has thus far been unbalanced. In actuality, it's an extension of trust wrapped in an acknowledgement of the pain she has caused by not truly trusting her before.

And the key difference here is that it was always Chloe saying that they would do it together, showing a simple vulnerability in admitting that she wants to have someone to sort through it all with... but this time it's Red who lets her walls down and lets their pain be shared rather than competing over similar struggles.

IDK I just have a lot of thoughts about this ending, they did it so well 😭

You can tell Red needed her Chloe back so damn bad with that hug, needed to show her just how sorry she is for all the pain she caused her.

The emotion on her face is so good for this moment because it really is such a big extension of trust in her world, and that enough tells Chloe that Red is ready to let them support each other in a deeper sense. I do wish there was more relief and longing on Chloe's face here tho, ngl... but to be entirely fair, she's expressed her pain plenty enough at this point in the story.

Reminder here that these two have known each other maybe a week atp☝so this is huge and pivotal for their relationship actually, not to get all intellectual in an emotional moment lmao

And what does Red, on the tail end of difficult vulnerability, go right to doing? Fussing over her gf, of course lol. Seriously though, I think its so important for people understand the way Red shows her love is through attention and affection—checking in, grabbing Chloe's hand, the intense worried eye contact, it's all a love language to her because its the only tool of expression she ever learned.

Through her mother, Red has seen three version of love all in the same form: From the younger version in the past, Red saw Bridget cling to Ella and give her energy/attention to strangers in order to earn their affection. From the current timeline version, the QoH is always giving her small little caresses and doting comments.

Even in the past timeline, Red was always told that her tyrannous mother's constant scrutiny and effort to mold and harden her daughter into her mini-me were out of love!! And what was that reinforced by? Moments where Red was taught not to give attention to people lest they be punished for it (Ace and Chester) or getting praise for deliberately ignoring someone and treating them as beneath her (her first interaction with Chloe in RoR).

Attention equals love to Red, and this is so so so important when viewing the way she interacts with the world and people around her.

Unfortunately, it is also an incredibly overlooked form of expression, especially in love—and even more so because she is a VK. Those who view attention as constant and stifling (like Chloe does as a royal) are not going to see it as affection as much as they would with other forms of expression, like PHYSICAL TOUCH. So when Red stops clinging to her? Suddenly there's nothing telling her that the other girl cares about her at all. That's why she started spiraling.

Speaking of the old timeline and Evil!Bridget, those two TOTALLY got flashbacks when Bridget said "off with his HEAD!" lmao... also Pink looks so concerned and honestly, same twin same 😅 I definitely was worried there was a twist happening there for a sec.

Red you handsy lil thing... 😆 I love the way Chloe just goes full puppy dog melt everytime Red holds her face like that, I LIVEEEE FOR IT!!! and Pink's face kills me in the first two screenshots cuz she's just staring at them like "I know what you are" meanwhile Hazel is just groovin it back there lmao
