“Mr. Schrader, you need to make sure you keep your fingers clean. I don’t think you’d have done this well a week from now.” That’s an understatement. Dan’s certain he’d have been draining the man of pus given another day.

His eyebrows knit together and Dan consciously wears his most serious, authoritative face. He wants the patient to take him seriously, but he hesitates when he meets Schrader’s eyes.  

“…Fractures are pretty common. Keep the splint clean and dry – you’ll need to wear it for at least 3 weeks.” He spins in his chair, scratching something down on a form. 

           Well, at least he’s talking. “ -- What does a gay bar have to do with anything?”

"What do you think it’s like to, like... puke blood?” No preamble. Not even eye contact. He just threw that shit out there and let it float. Admittedly, Micah was pretty stoned. But there was not enough weed in the world to justify bringing up this topic. 

“Do you think it’d spew outta you like fruit punch or get all mixed with the food in your stomach and come out like chili?” He sucked his knuckle for a moment. “I bet its like fruit punch.”
