ANSWERS ABOUT THIS NERD ORC COMING RIGHT UP
1. How does your character think of their father? What do they hate and love about him? What influence - literal or imagined - did the father have?Diskami’s father had a huge influence on her growing up. He was a shaman and he sparked her complete and utter obsession with the elements. It was through him that she found her path to shamanism herself. The two of them grew a lot closer when she started really getting into reading – his knowledge of the elements was purely that of experience and primal force, so books weren’t exactly a familiar concept to him. They helped each other learn a lot.
3. Brothers, sisters? Who do they like? Why? What do they despise about their siblings?Diskami had two brothers growing up. She was the eldest of the three kids, and she just so happened to be the strongest of the bunch, so having rowdy brothers was never a problem for her. She really loved the buggers! But as with many younger siblings, there are annoyances and arguments to be had.
5. Were they overprotected as a child? Sheltered? Not at all! They were free to roam and explore. If they got chewed up by a raptor in the Barrens, it was their problem.
7. What was the economic status of their family? Her family was about average relative to orc standards. It was a humble living, but they didn’t seem to mind very much.
9. What about political beliefs?Diskami doesn’t get involved in politics; she wouldn’t know where to start. She really has no interest anyway.
11. How do they see themselves: as smart, as intelligent, uneducated?Diskami definitely thinks herself to be smart. She is an avid reader and she spends her days searching for books, scrolls, and other sources of knowledge. Her interests are rather singular, but she picks up a lot of information about other things while reading even about one topic.
13. Did they like school? Teachers? Schoolmates?Diskami never really had an opportunity to go to school as a child, so she ended up having to learn to read mostly on her own. Her family would gather around for lessons of their own when she figured it out for herself. Languages became an obsession for her; books come in so many of them!
15. Did they graduate? High-School? College? Do they have a PHD? A GED?I feel like WoW doesn’t even have a proper schooling system, but in any case Diskami had no formal education whatsoever.
17. Did they travel? Where? Why? When?Diskami did a great deal of traveling, especially after learning about the many ways the elements live and breathe in different regions of Azeroth, and beyond. She’s stepped through a few precarious portals and ended up in some faraway realms and places – it’s been wild.
19. What were your character’s deepest disillusions? In life? What are they now?Diskami grew up thinking life would be more exciting and fulfilling – as though she was living in a storybook. However, things just don’t end up that way, and she’s realized that life is far more mundane. Life has its storybook moments, but there is a lot in between that you just don’t read about.
21. What are your character’s manners like? What is their type of hero? Whom do they hate?Diskami tries to be polite, as per normal social conventions, but she is still rough around the edges. This tends to cause some negativity since she’s come to Eversong. Elves are just a little bit more uppity about things like that, it seems.
23. What do they want from a partner? What do they think and feel of sex?Diskami isn’t exactly looking for a partner, and she isn’t particularly fond of the idea of sex. She just doesn’t feel it, man. She’d likely do fine going at life alone, with all of her books and studies for the rest of her days. She’d be content.
25. What are their hobbies and interests?Books! She loves reading. Her personal favorites are scholarly or researched books on the topic of the elements and shamanism, but she indulges in adventure novels and “coming-of-age” stories.
27. How do they relate to their appearance? How do they wear their clothing? Style? Quality?Diskami tends to wear some fairly simple stuff. In her travels she wears leather-crafted clothing on top of some light cloth, while in true expeditions she will don added layers of protective mail and additional leathers. At her most casual, easy cloth and leather garments make up the bulk of her wardrobe. The quality of her clothing isn’t the best, being mostly hand-sewn by a not-so-adept leather worker (her. It’s her). That’s why she tries to keep it simple. Harder to fuck up.
29. What is your character’s weaknesses? Hubris? Pride? Controlling? She is very insecure of herself, in just about every skill or pursuit she has. For every one, she has doubts which are very difficult, if not impossible to dispel on her own.
31. Does your character have children? How do they feel about their parental role? About the children? How do the children relate? She has no children!
33. Do they drink? Take drugs? What about their health? Diskami is a light drinker. She never did like very much the taste of most alcohol, and does not have the mind to keep at it until a taste develops. No drugs, however. She is pretty healthy. Fit and strong, she is.
35. Do they always rationalize errors? How do they accept disasters and failures?Diskami tends to have a hard time being completely rational in errors and disasters. She gets flustered and thrown off when things don’t go the “idealized” way they theoretically should, and really has a hard time accepting those situations.
37. How is your character’s imagination? Daydreaming a lot? Worried most of the time? Living in memories?Diskami does daydream often, but she doesn’t worry very often. Her insecurities are a come-and-go type of deal and only pop up when mentioned. When she is otherwise unbothered, she is calm. She feels good about things, and she just daydreams. Memories do come to her often, but she tries not to dwell on them very much, even if they are positive.
39. What do they like to ridicule? What do they find stupid?Diskami tends to find the notion of people who dislike reading entirely to be stupid. She just doesn’t understand how that can be true. She would never ridicule a person for it, but she does think a lot about how dumb that idea is, that people can just… NOT like reading.
41. Is your character aware of who they are? Strengths? Weaknesses? Idiosyncrasies? Capable of self-irony?Diskami is very much aware of her flaws, but she often does not recognize her strengths. She can see progress when it happens, but the good in her just does not stand out as much as it should.
43. Does your character have any secrets? If so, are they holding them back? She definitely doesn’t have any major secrets, especially not ones that would hold her back in any substantial way.
45. Is your character pragmatic? Think first? Responsible? All action? A visionary? Passionate? Quixotic?Diskami is rather passionate about what she does, though responsibility and pragmatism may not be the first things on her mind. She can be a little bit reckless and hasty in her actions, but she always means well.
47. Do they want to project an image of a younger, older, more important person? Does they want to be visible or invisible?Diskami tries to project herself as more mature, perhaps stronger person than she is now. She wants to be visible, but she doesn’t feel as if the person she is now really makes the cut. She lives much of her life through other people’s stories, so she may need to find her own in order to move on.
49. What about voice? Pitch? Strength? Tempo and rhythm of speech? Pronunciation? Accent?Diskami is relatively soft-spoken as far as orcs go, though she still retains some of the characteristic roughness in speech. She speaks at a moderate pace, sometimes speeding up and getting rowdier as she gets excited. She occasionally pronounces some words wrong, as most of the big vocab words she knows came from the page of a book and not by ear. She speaks Orcish as anyone would expect, but any other language she dabbles in would come with a strong accent.
